Ozeaon began as a design research project exploring oceanic health, human wellbeing, sustainability, and the possibility of making regenerative knowledge more accessible and actionable.
Over time, it evolved into a platform ecosystem designed to connect open science, education, collaboration, opportunities, and funding pathways for ocean, climate, land, and regenerative solutions.
Ozeaon's history is the story of a research question becoming digital infrastructure for regenerative innovation.
Origin Statement
Ozeaon began not as a startup but as a question — shaped by environmental concern, creative practice, and design research, and a recurring observation: regenerative knowledge exists, yet stays fragmented and hard to act on. It grew into a platform that moves knowledge from research into participation, trust, and implementation.

The 2019–2020 Australian bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic made climate and ecosystem fragility immediate and unavoidable.
Master's research in Portugal shifted the project toward ocean systems, human wellbeing, sustainability, and regenerative design.
Research into algae, seaweed, marine biomaterials, regenerative ocean farming, health & wellbeing, food, ecosystem services, and circular economy shaped the early concept.
The idea evolved into an online platform combining open educational resources, content creation, project funding, community participation, and DAO governance.
The platform concept became Ozeaon: a regenerative innovation platform connecting knowledge, participation, opportunities, and funding.
Ozeaon was endorsed as UN Ocean Decade Action 10.7 under the Early Career Ocean Professionals Programme and developed through accelerator and ecosystem engagement.
Ozeaon is now moving from concept, research, and prototype development into early access, delivery, partnership building, and launch preparation.

Between 2019 and 2020, climate and ecosystem instability became more immediate.
The Australian bushfires exposed the scale and urgency of environmental collapse, while the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the fragility of global systems and the consequences of disrupted relationships between human health, ecology, and economic life.
These events accelerated the shift from art and creative production toward design, sustainability, ocean systems, and regenerative innovation.
This stage grew out of Master's research in Design for Health & Wellbeing at ESAD.cr, Polytechnic of Leiria, Portugal — exploring how ocean knowledge and regenerative systems could support human health, the environment, food systems, and open learning.
It led to a deeper insight: learning, collaboration, and implementation should not be separated. If people could move easily from knowledge into contribution, and from contribution into support, regenerative innovation could become more accessible and scalable. Ozeaon was then prototyped and tested — educational resources, article creation, project pages, user profiles, mobile views, and DAO concepts — moving from a speculative proposal into a practical platform architecture.

After the research and prototype phase, Ozeaon evolved into a real-world platform — expanding to include educational resources, articles, projects, open calls, organisation profiles, partnerships, community participation, and funding pathways. A broader governance and stewardship logic emerged through the Advisory Board, Ozeaon Foundation, DAO mechanisms, and later OCIS as a climate intelligence and project integrity system.
