Ozeaon October 2026 Progress: Copernicus Finals, Web Summit and Founding Members
Ozeaon reached the Copernicus Marine Service Hackathon finals, was selected for the Web Summit 2026 Startup Showcase, published its second blockchain white paper and welcomed its first Founding Members.
By Joseph Flynn
October 2026 was a month of technical progress and international engagement for Ozeaon, the ocean and climate platform connecting research, innovation, collaboration and funding for regenerative projects. With the platform entering a broader onboarding phase, attention is turning towards building an active community of researchers, educators, organisations and environmental practitioners.
The month's principal developments were:
Reaching the finals of the Copernicus Marine Service Hackathon 2026.
Selection for the Startup Showcase at Web Summit 2026 in Lisbon.
Publication of the second edition of the Ozeaon blockchain white paper, Proof of Progress.
Welcoming the first Ozeaon Tide Founding Members, including organisational accounts.
Preparing a first crowdfunding pilot with Rubisko.
Who Are the Ozeaon Tide Founding Members?
Ozeaon Tide Founding Members are the first individuals and organisations helping to establish the platform's foundations. Following the Closed Alpha phase, Ozeaon has begun welcoming public and institutional users, including organisational accounts associated with We Make Change and the University of Cambridge.
Onboarding focuses on helping participants create profiles, represent their organisations, publish Articles and Projects, and find opportunities to collaborate across disciplines. The programme responds to a persistent problem in environmental innovation: research, education, enterprise and community projects often operate in separate systems, making partnerships and resources difficult to find.
Registration for Ozeaon Tide Founding Members closes on 1 December 2026.
Copernicus Marine Service Hackathon 2026: Ozeaon Reaches the Finals
Ozeaon reached the finals of the Copernicus Marine Service Hackathon 2026, with participation beginning on 29 October. The hackathon has provided an opportunity to apply marine environmental datasets, Earth observation and computational tools to ecological monitoring and regenerative project assessment.
This work feeds directly into the Ozeaon Climate Intelligence System (OCIS). OCIS is a complementary technology platform designed to make environmental intelligence, project integrity assessment and digital monitoring, reporting and verification (dMRV) more accessible.
Although Earth observation has advanced considerably, smaller organisations and project developers still face technical and financial barriers to credible monitoring. OCIS aims to translate complex environmental data into practical, actionable tools, with an emphasis on scientific credibility and usability.
Web Summit 2026: Selected for the Startup Showcase
Ozeaon has been selected as an Alpha Startup for the Startup Showcase at Web Summit 2026, taking place in Lisbon this November. The event will introduce the platform to an international audience of technology companies, investors, researchers and prospective partners.
The team will demonstrate Ozeaon's current capabilities and explore collaboration across ocean innovation, climate technology, environmental science and regenerative enterprise. Attendees interested in partnerships, publishing research or joining the Founding Members community are encouraged to arrange a meeting in advance.
Preparing a First Crowdfunding Pilot with Rubisko
Ozeaon is preparing its first practical crowdfunding pilot with Rubisko, a startup developing technologies to improve the efficiency of regenerative innovation. Working with Rubisko's CTO, Hannah Gillespie, the team is exploring a small project funding campaign to test Ozeaon's emerging payment infrastructure in a real-world setting.
The pilot will evaluate the full funding journey, from project publication to contributor participation. Payment processing, refunds, compliance and user protections will be validated before any live contributions are accepted. Connecting knowledge, collaboration and funding in one ecosystem is central to helping ideas move towards implementation.
What Is Proof of Progress? The Ozeaon White Paper, Version 2
October saw the publication of the second edition of Ozeaon's blockchain white paper, Proof of Progress: A Contribution-Verified Protocol Economy for Regenerative Innovation. It sets out the proposed technological, economic and governance architecture for a blockchain-enabled ecosystem supporting transparent participation, contribution verification, funding and collective decision-making.
Proof of Progress is a proposed approach to recognising and verifying meaningful contributions to regenerative innovation. These include research, education, technical development and community engagement. The paper also examines the governance and accountability mechanisms needed to build these capabilities responsibly.
The white paper draws on expertise across blockchain technology, software engineering, governance, ethics, economics and design. It is publicly available at ozeaon.com/whitepaper, and constructive feedback from researchers, technologists and practitioners is welcome.
Expanding the Network at Blue Earth Summit
Earlier in October, members of the Ozeaon team attended Blue Earth Summit in London. They met entrepreneurs, investors, researchers and organisations working across ocean conservation, climate technology and sustainable enterprise.
These conversations reinforced a recurring theme: research, technology, finance and implementation are closely linked, yet often operate through separate networks. Ozeaon also held discussions with creative collaborators on visual storytelling and regenerative design, and received an offer for a potential feature through The Purpose Economy.
Strengthening Ozeaon's Operational Foundations
Behind the scenes, the team refined functional specifications, set clearer development milestones and improved coordination between the Ozeaon platform and OCIS. Internal applications for task management, marketing communications and survey administration are helping the team manage a growing network of partners and users efficiently.
An Invitation to the ECOP Community
As a UN Ocean Decade endorsed Project under the Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) Programme, Ozeaon particularly welcomes ECOP members, regional nodes and affiliated organisations. Universities, research institutions, environmental organisations and innovators working across the ocean, climate and land nexus are also invited to join, publish their work and collaborate.
What Comes Next for Ozeaon?
In November, Ozeaon's priorities are expanding the Founding Members community, supporting institutional and individual onboarding, advancing OCIS development and preparing the Rubisko crowdfunding pilot. Web Summit 2026 will provide a further opportunity to build strategic relationships.
The challenges facing our ocean, climate and ecosystems are interconnected, yet the systems for sharing knowledge and mobilising resources remain fragmented. Ozeaon exists to close that gap, helping people move from research and ideas towards practical implementation and measurable environmental outcomes.
Ozeaon thanks its team, Advisory Board, development partners, collaborators and early community members for their continued contributions.
